April 2013 - Mr. Kritsada Rotcharach standing in the wheat field behind his village in Sai Noi. He was one of the six men who volunteered to be left behind and monitor the situation while the rest of the people were given order to evacuate the area. For days he was confined in the top floor of his town-house, having to climb down a mango tree to get to his boat.
The whole neighbourhood was ready to face the flood with pumps and sand bags but they were not expecting the water to come from the fields behind their houses. © Giorgio Taraschi for The Rockefeller Foundation/Next City
